Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic Acid is a glycosaminoglycan, which is a fancy name for a vital naturally-occurring substance that’s part of your skin’s youth supporting matrix. It works to keep every aspect of your skin stable and constantly renewed.

Unfortunately as we age our skin begins to sag. This is due to many external and internal effects of ageing on the body.

Intrinsic (Internal) ageing, is a natural part of the ageing process. As we age the two incredibly important components in our skin that work to keep it firm, collagen and elastin, decrease. This loss can then cause wrinkle, some people may have a genetic predisposition for this occurring earlier compared to others. As well as decreasing in Collagen and Elastin, your skin loses its ability to shed properly, which can lead to sagging skin and wrinkles.

Extrinsic ageing or external ageing can be caused by many things like repetitive facial expressions, sleeping positions, smoking, sun exposure and extreme or rapid weight changes. Sagging skin is most likely to be experienced when losing dramatic amounts of weight. This can be avoided by also incorporating exercise into your regimen as well as eating healthy. The more tight your muscles are, the less likely you are to experience sagging skin. Some people will experience sagging skin as they age because of the loss of muscle over time.

How do I postpone these effects on my skin?
There are many ways that can be effective in preventing or helping the appearance of sagging skin. There are several routines or treatments you can undergo but they get progressively more invasive.

The least invasive way to deal with sagging skin is to make sure that you protect your skin from the sun. It’s been suggested that the fine lines and age spots that can be caused by exposure to UV, can also cause your skin to sag over time.

In addition to this an effective skincare routine can be effective in the prevention of sagging skin. Look out for anything containing Hyaluronic AcidYeast extractaloe vera extract and soy protein as these all work to fortify your skin and help it produce more collagen. Dermatologists also suggest that anything containing Retinol can be helpful in combating this, Dr Fredric Brandt says "We know that they stimulate collagen production and cellular regeneration."

If you want to try our products containing Hyaluronic Acid and Retinol, try the following:

Other more invasive methods are Laser Resurfacing and Chemical peels. They work to heat up the lower layers of your skin to make it create more collagen and elastin. These can be really effective in tightening your skin as they allow the dermatologist to provide heat to exactly where it needs to be. In some cases, certain types of these techniques are better for certain areas, for example radiofrequency, is more effective on your neck and upper arms. In some cases you may need to take some rest after the treatments and results may not be seen until a few months after. Some have also noticed that there’s a chance that scarring can occur from these treatments.

The most invasive of all of these treatments is obviously plastic surgery, which can be very effective in getting rid of the tissue of sagging skin for a very long time.
