Mandelic Acid is a little known Alpha Hydroxy Acid (AHA) also known as amygdalic acid. It’s derived from bitter almonds and more gentle than other AHAs like Glycolic Acid and Lactic Acid. Due to its larger size in comparison to these other AHAs, it may be less effective than Glycolic Acid. However Mandelic Acid is better for people who experience sensitive skin.

It works to accelerate cell turnover by dissolving the tiny bonds that hold skin cells together. Helping to remove dead skin cells, means that your skin can look more even and help to discourage fine lines and wrinkles. As an AHA, it also can strengthen the collagen in your skin. The antibacterial benefits of Mandelic Acid can help fight against the bacteria that can cause acne.

There have also been connections between hyperpigmentation, discolouration and Mandelic Acid. It has been shown to reduce melasma by as much as 50% in four weeks. Which then helps give your skin a more even complexion and makes it great for people who are looking to get rid of age spots and rosacea.

What is Rosacea?

Rosacea is a common but poorly understood long-term skin condition that causes your skin to flush or persistently look red. There are other symptoms such as sensitive skin and visible blood vessels which can be noticed and diagnosed by a Doctor.

Rosacea can be triggered by various things. Everyone has a different experience with Rosacea but the most commonly reported issues include; exposure to sunlight, stress, hot or cold weather, strong winds, strenuous exercise, alcohol, hot baths, spicy foods, hot drinks, humidity, caffeine, the menopause, dairy products, other medical conditions and certain medicines such as amiodarone, corticosteroids and high doses of Vitamins B6 and B12. By avoiding these triggers, taking good care of your skin and using SPF regularly you can live with rosacea and have few issues.
