We all have issues with our skin, be it problems with acne or issues with pigmentation. There are several things that can be done to help resurface your skin to help avoid acne, pigmentation and uneven skin texture.
Acne has multiple different causes, however, the most common is due to building up of oils (sebum) in your skin that builds an cause clogged pores and therefore spots. “Adult acne is the result of a problem with the oil chemistry,” says dermatologist Dennis Gross, MD. “As hormones change, oil does too, becoming more viscous and as it flows through the gland and out through the pore, it gets stuck.”
Pigmentation and uneven skin texture can also be helped in the same way in which you can deal with acne. "Uneven skin texture is commonly a result of excess dead skin cells that build up on the surface of the skin," explains cosmetic dermatologist Paul Jarrod Frank, MD. "This can make areas of the skin feel rough or bumpy to the touch and can also give the skin a dull appearance." As such exfoliating your skin and chemical peels can be crucial in helping rid yourself of these issues.
Exfoliation
Exfoliating your skin has been known as one of the most important things you can do to look after your skin. It helps to rejuvenate your skin by removing loose or dead skin cells. When you remove dead skin cells it’s possible that you can also help to fade uneven pigmentation. This is because some dead skin cells might contain pigmentation and when you remove them, age spots can begin to fade. On top of this, the action of exfoliating your skin also allows the natural release of your skin’s oils, which in turn unclogs your pores.
The only thing to avoid when exfoliating your skin is that over exfoliation and being too aggressive in your scrubbing cause the overproduction of oils or micro-tears in your skin.

Chemical Peels
Chemical peels work in a very similar way to exfoliators however they are a little more gentle on your skin as you don’t have the opportunity to scrub too hard at your skin. They are generally made with key ingredients called Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs). These are normally made from natural substances like sour milk that work to slough off old skin cells. They work to stimulate regrowth, promote collagen production as well as to even out your skin’s texture and pigmentation.
If you're looking for something containing an AHA to help promote your skin’s natural shedding process without drying it out, try our Anti-Ageing Retexturing and Resurfacing DUO Moisturiser.
